I’ve been active in the world of film and theater for several years. I write music for films, under my full name Phil Vanderyken, and have had the privilege of working with some talented local filmmakers. I also write screenplays.
In April ’17 my original musical play ‘When Books Begin to Burn” was performed at DIY theater space Mary Majak, with a cast of five actors and accompanied by my New Orleans Eclectic Ensemble. Here are two excerpts:
I’m putting together a pitch trailer for my movie “Cash in Hand”. Here’s a snippet from a first scene, starring Johnny Rock.
Here’s a few samples of my soundtrack work.
“Distortion” directed by Andrew Bui
I scored Carl Johnson‘s entry for the 2014 New Orleans 48 Hour film fest, a silent sci fi short titled “Damascus”.
I helped put together the “house band” for this scene from The Victory Lounge, directed by Miceal O’Donnel. With Rick Szybowski piano, Mark LaMaire on upright bass, and Chris Owen on drums. Vocals by Elisabeth Erwin, back up vocals by Holly Ladnier and Rebecca Baras.
My first score was for Miceal O’Donnel’s short “the Capsule”.
